“Holy Spirit, you are
welcome here. Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere. Your glory, God,
is what our hearts long for, to be overcome by your presence, Lord.”
These are words of one of my favorite songs called “Holy Spirit” by Bryan and Katie Torwalt.
Think about those words… In Exodus, when Moses entered the cloud of God, it was often referred to as the glory of God. The glory of God came in a cloud. The Israelites’ song of deliverance says “Your right hand, O Lord, is glorious in power. Your right hand, O Lord, smashes our enemies” Ex 15:6. If God’s glory smashes our enemies, why are we still falling to them?
There must be something missing. It must be that we don’t know our enemies; that we aren’t aware that depression, anger, disability, sickness, complacency are our enemies.
The Holy Spirit is our strength. What a great thing Satan would try to cover from our eyes from. Truth. He always targets truth. The truth is that the Holy Spirit was not given to us lightly. Not just to help us, but to help us spread God’s glory- capable of healing, deliverance, physically and emotionally, boldness, words of wisdom, discernment, joy, freedom, restoration, fruitfulness. Look it up, it’s all biblical.
My question is this: what if we actually lived like the Holy Spirit was in us? What would happen?
It all sounds so great, so real, so- “of course! Why wouldn’t we live like that?! “
Why don’t we live like that?
And this is who my question is addressed to: Me.
Why don’t I live like that?
There must be something missing. I believe it’s an understanding, awareness and grasp on the power that was given to us… the power of full salvation. Not a Sunday school prayer followed by a simple life of doing good. But a transformation, renewing of our minds (Rom 12:2). An understanding that the glory of God is at our fingertips for our own lives, and for the purpose of missions. Why would we not utilize it?
The song continues in good harmony with “Let us become more aware of your presence. Let us experience the glory of your goodness.”
Oh, God, let us experience your glory. Holy Spirit, let us actually walk like you live within us. Let us access the gift you are to us. Let us seek to know and understand what that actually means. How much more rich our lives would be, how much more rich the lives of others around us would be if we walked this way, sharing your glory with the world. Holy Spirit, you are welcome here… If you pray that, you must expect it. What a dangerously exciting prayer.
